In every corner that I’ve lived I try to learn as much as I can about the people, their culture and of course try  their cuisine.

Obviously I tried and loved Thai food and there is always a craving for that spiciness.

Well after 9 months here I must be honest and say that I haven’t really ventured out much and tried Kazakh food. I’m not there yet and I don’t know if I’ll ever be.  I’ve read and heard that traditional food here revolves around horse meat.  Yes you read correctly, horse meat!!

Hmmmmm………I’m guessing that their nomadic way of life influenced their cuisine, and so hence the horse meat.  They also prefer sour milk, which I don’t know if I’ll ever have the stomach to try it!!

It’s May Already?!

Wow, where did April go to ?  The days have just been going, going and going and I seem to have lost track! 

April was such a busy month for me with planning and organizing the Amazing race for the older kids here in our camp.  I literally hit the ground running as soon as we came back from Spring break. I’m happy to say that I think the race went well and that the kids really enjoyed themselves.

Istanbul was lovely and I want to go back and explore it some more and Australia, well Australia is always beautiful.

Well it’s May and unfortunately I don’t see it slowing down any time soon  I’m looking forward to summer already!

It’s my birthday today and I came across the quote above.  I totally feel like it’s for me as I turn another year older!  yes, another year and a new start!

The snow has melted away and the weather has been absolutely gorgeous.  I like this time of the year!

So for today’s post I’ll have to say in hindsight 1 sugar cube would have been enough…2 was a little too much!

I’m in Turkey right now and chey (chai-tea!) is totally their thing and I’m really enjoying it!

I’m so ready……

I’ve gone through the fridge, cleaned it out and given away food that might go bad while we’re away. All the laundry is done and my house is clean.  I’m ready.  We’re ready!

We’re out of here tomorrow and are heading to Turkey,  and I can’t wait.  Renee left last Friday with her classmates for Space Camp and she’s having so much fun.  Thankfully she’s kept in touch with us these last couple of days and so it’s been easy on me.  Unlike last year when she made her trip, and she never left Thailand! (I posted about it here).   

What a difference a year makes.

Well like I said I’m ready to get out of Kazakhstan for a little.  The cold, snowy overcast days are beginning to get me down and I’m in desperate need of some sunshine.  I’m thinking Turkey will be cold but it can’t be as cold as here.  I know Abu Dhabi won’t be and Australia will be lovely, as always!

This weeks theme is “everyday!”

There are some things that I try to do everyday – like exercise.  But of course it doesn’t always happen.   And then there are those things that I make a committed and conscious effort to do everyday!

Like I tell him everyday that I love him, and that I‘m thankful that he’s my husband!  I don’t want to take that for granted.

And I also tell my kids that I love them.  sometimes they’ll say they love me back and other times they don’t.  But that doesn’t matter.
